2014 Organic Farm Tours


Two organic vegetable farm tours will be held this week.  One near Jamestown MO and the other near Osceola MO.  Both farms are certified organic, members of the Missouri Organic Association and working with the Lincoln University’s Integrated Pest Management Program.

August 7th (Thursday) 4:30 – 6:30 PM:

ü Trap cropping for Cole and Cucurbit crops (Jacob Wilson, Lincoln University)
ü How to identify and manage organically the most common diseases in tomatoes (Dr. Zelalem Mersha, Lincoln University)
ü Spotted Wing Drosophila overview and organic management options (Jacob Wilson – Aug. 7; Dr. Jaime Pinero, Lincoln University – Aug. 8). Free monitoring traps and bait!
ü Farm walk and hands-on diseases, pest and beneficial insects identification (Wilson & Dr. Mersha)
ü Free educational materials, light snacks, and refreshments will be provided.

**Directions to Bear Creek Farms:
      Highway 13 to TT Hwy just south of Osceola (across from Wheeler Livestock Auction)
      Turn east on TT and go approximately 5 miles to gravel road 1131.
      Turn North (left) and go about 1 mile to T intersection. Turn east (right) and go about 2 miles to Bear Creek Farms.
